I was impressed by the deep interest in culture-guided companies and I strongly believe that young people of today understand the need for strong values and increasingly want to work not just for money but for companies who have a deeper purpose.
Young people study longer than ever, and once they enter the labor market they want to advance quickly. This means that it is incredibly important to cherish and develop corporate culture and see its potentials.
“Today, I believe that corporate culture plays a very large role for a Young Professional when looking for jobs”, says Elin Hammenfors. “Just look at the hyper-attractive companies like Google and Facebook which offer an interactive working environment or different trainee programs that really give you a chance to be a part of the company. I believe that management more and more will see great benefits in favouring recruits who share the company’s values over a specific CV profile.”
One of the questions the Young Professionals discussed was how culture can be protected as a company grows. My experience from Securitas tells me that creating a flat organisation, where decisions and support are as close to the customer as possible, is a vital ingredient in maintaining the corporate identity and way of doing things. If you choose a flat governance structure, it is easier to grow yet still keep the spirit of a smaller company.
Last but not least, we agreed on that a company’s excellence derives from how well its leaders succeed in being true to the company values.
” ‘Walk the talk’, I think is something that is very important in all kinds of organizations. As a leader you cannot tell others what to do if you do not practice what you preach”, Elin concludes.
Upcoming: In a few days I’m looking forward to meet the talented young students of the Master’s programme in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
